The complication rate of vitreoretinal surgery rises with the duration of vitrectomy. Secondly, the longer the surgery, the higher the economical impact on the health-care system. Thus it is of our great interest to keep the duration of the vitreoretinal surgery limited without reducing its quality. This video demonstrates the effectiveness of implementing the Self-sealing MIS (multiport illumination system) in pars plana vitrectomy with special focus on the above-mentioned criteria.
