PATIENT INFORMATION DVD

EVRS offers to its members the possibility to receive for free as much Patient Information DVDs as retina and cataract procedures they are performing yearly.

Description of the DVD:
The DVD is divided in 6 chapters (How does vision work?, Cataract, Posterior Vitreous Detachment, Retinal Detachment, Macular Edema & Membrane and Macular Hole).
The first chapter shows a 2-minute explanation on the principles of the vision. All the other chapters explain how the disease arrives, what are the symptoms, the evolution if left untreated, the basis of the treatment, the recommendations after leaving the clinic and the long-term evolution.
All the images are build in 3-D animations in order to avoid any shocking images.
Everything is done to let the patient believe that his surgeon has build the DVD by himself:

  • The DVD voice-off is recorded in the surgeons native language.
  • The surgeon's name figures on the DVD.
  • The DVD is free from other names / advertisement.

Advantages for the surgeon:
The surgeon provides to each patient an audio-visual information that the patient accepts to read / hear. Usually, the patient signs a form stipulating his agreement (a written consent has less legal value when a partially-sighted person is concerned).
Providing such a beautiful explanation is considered by the patient as a prove of altruism, transparency and willingness of information and this changes considerably the relationship patient - surgeon.

Conditions:
The surgeon must be an EVRS Member up-to-date with his EVRS Membership fee.
The EVRS Member must fill in the Patient Information DVD form (click here)
stipulating the industrial ophthalmic companies he is working with (vitrectomy machine, IOLs ...). He will receive the DVDs for free only if the mentioned companies accept to sponsor the DVD production. If the company refuses, he can buy the DVD at 1,45 EUR without VAT per unit.
