Severe proliferative vitreo-retinopathy is often encountered as a complication of open globe trauma and complex retinal detachments. Access to subretinal membranes is often difficult due to increased retinal mobility once the necessary retinotomies have been performed.

This video illustrates the use of perfluorocarbon liquids in the subretinal space to stabilize the folded retina after a 360 retinotomy in a 35y-o patient with a complete funnel retinal detachment and severe contraction of the retina at the vitreous base.
