ICG ENHENCEMENT OF MEMBRANE PEELING IN PVR
Tibor Milibak,MD
Uzsoki Hospital, Budapest, Hungary

Purpose: To demonstrate enhancing effect of indocyanin-green (ICG) staining of the internal limiting membrane (ILM) on membrane peeling in proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
Patients and methods: Interventional case series. Ten eyes of 10 patients with PVR CP1-2 underwent vitrectomy. During surgery ICG enhanced membrane peeling, fluid/perfluorocarbon and perfluorocarbon silicon oil or gase exchange were performed. Small amounts of ICG and perfluorocarbon liquid were injected repeatedly.
Results: Out of the total of 10 eyes ICG enhanced visualisation of praeretinal membranes in 4 eyes. In additional 2 eyes only traces of ICG staining were visible. In the remaining 4 cases ICG stayning was completely ineffective.
Conclusion: ICG staining of the ILM may be helpful in visualisation of peripheral vitreous remnants and praeretinal membranes. If fine praeretinal membranes cover large areas of the retina, ICG staining may be ineffective.
