EPIDEMIOLOGICAL
AND CLINICAL STUDY ON 4770 RHEGMATOGENOUS RDS
Didier Ducournau
Nantes, France
The PVR of 4770 successive
rhegmatogenous RDs have been analysed.
4148 RDs primary
procedure 622 RDs previously operated
Stage 0* 20,4% 11,9%
Stade A 56.9% 39,1%
Stade B 11,7% 4,7%
Stade C1 (A or P 1 to 3) 5,4% 16,6%
Stade C2 (A or P 4 to 6) 3,3% 14,1%
Stade C3 (A or P 7 to 9) 1.2% 5,1%
Stade C4 (A or P 10 to 12) 1% 8,5%
(*=retinogenous RDs or vitreogenous RDs without pigment in the vitreous)
The evolution of the
PVR after failure of primary procedure will also be presented.
In each stage of PVR,
we present the distribution for each type of retinal breaks we can encounter.
We then analyse for each type of breaks the distribution of PVR stages
induced.
Stage 0 Stage A Stage
B Stage C
Equatorial hole 81% 16% 3%
Dialysis 85% 15%
Macular hole 85% 13% 2%
Small tear 10% 77% 3% 10%
"Average" tear 6% 69% 12% 13%
Big tear 48% 39% 13%
Giant tear 28% 56% 16%
Para vascular tear 68% 32%
The expected failure
rate according to the PVR distribution is presented for each type of breaks.
