SCIENTIFIC POSTER SESSION

"HIGH PRESSURE" VITRECTOMY

Rubens Camargo Siqueira, Claudio Dalloul, Rodrigo Jorge
Brazil

Purpose: to describe a new technique of vitrectomy surgery for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) without the need of the perfluorocarbon liquids use.
Material and methods: 45 patients, with retinal detachment and proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) in different grades, were submitted the vitrectomy surgery using infusion of air in high pressure and retinotomy punctate, for liberation of the traction points caused by PVR.
Results: In all the cases we obtained the application of the retina at the end of the surgery. In 13 cases there were retina redetachments. In these cases another surgery was done successfully with the same technique. There was a significant improvement (p> 0,05) of the visual acuity in the postoperative compared with preoperative.
Conclusion: The "high pressure" vitrectomy with retinotomy punctate is a good alternative for the treatment of the retinal detachments with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), with the advantage that the use of the perfluorocarbon liquids won't be necessary
