Since vision provides man's primary means of orientation to his environment, sight threatening eye injuries typically induce massive anxiety. The urgent and unexpected nature of eye injuries challenges us to achieve the rapport or necessary for initial informed consent and continued partnership during treatment. We review counseling concepts, including use of the ocular trauma score (OTS) for accurate prognostication.
