ENDOSCOPY
ASSISTED VITRECTOMY (EAV) IN OCULAR TRAUMA: WHY AND HOW?
Claude Boscher
Paris, France
Purpose: to illustrate
the rationale for use , the technique, the advantages and pitfalls of
endoscopy in ocular trauma ..
Rationale for use: exploratory endoscopy, prevention of PVR, treatment
of PVR and hypotony, treatment of post traumatic glaucoma.
Technique: control of penetration of surgical tools, hyaloido capsulo
zonulociliary dissection, use of PFCL, control of subretinal maneuvers,
control of exchanges, cleansing of sclerotomies.
Advantages: resolves the dilemma between the logic of early vitrectomy
in trauma and the delay due to visualization problems.
Pitfalls: massive fresh bleeding, control of endoscope introduction, training.
Conclusion: EAV facilitates achieved early vitrectomy for surgeons trained
in both trauma and endoscopy
