COMBINED ANTERIOR AND POSTERIOR SEGMENT SURGERY FOLLOWING
SEVERE BLUNT AND SHARP OCULAR INJURIES.
Wolfgang F. Schrader
Universitätsaugenklinik,Würzburg, Germany
Background: In vitreoretinal
surgery the combination with anterior segment surgery is getting more
and more common. However, in trauma surgery, it is widely accepted to
restrict anatomic reconstruction of severe injuries to the posterior segment
and go on with anterior segment reconstruction (intraocular lens insertion)
when the posterior segment seems to be stable.
Method: Several cases are presented in the video, where reconstruction
of anterior and posterior segment was performed in a single procedure.
Conclusion: the combined reconstruction of the anterior and posterior
segment in severe ocuolar injuries is feasible also in one experienced
hand. It allows a quick restitution of visual function and reduces the
time required for inpatient treatment.
