ACID-BASE
BALANCE OF EYE POSTERIOR SEGMENT IN RETINAL DETACHMENT WITH PVR.

Eye Microsurgery Center, Kijv, Ukraine.
Purpose: To evaluate the consequence of acidity intraocular fluids in
pathogenesis of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
Methods: In a study 210 eyes with retinal detachment and PVR underwent
operative treatment. In operative theatre subretinal fluid and vitreus
body and blood taking up and measuring of pH were performed.
Results: Diapason of consequence pH were from 6.7 to 7.5 in vitreus body
and from 7.2 to 10.0 in subretinal fluid. Alcalosis of subretinal fluid
was in most cases more that in blood. The difference of H+ concentration
was observed in cases of acute Retinal detachment * 0.7 -1.4, there were
no significant difference in acidity between subretinal fluid and vitreus
body in patients with severe PVR.
Conclusions: In the progress development of retinal detachment and PVR
acid-base balance have fase. Deep metabolically alkalosis of subretinal
fluid is the cause of it high viscosity and accumulation of plasma proteins
in subretinal space. Perhaps the differences in ions concentration between
neuroepitelium in posterior eye pole play a role in cells migration and
proliferation
