Moderator Guidelines

  1. The moderator should understand that there would be no classic presentation at the podium. The sessions will be run like a talk show in a TV program.

  2. Before the meeting, each moderator will receive the abstracts of the presentations of his/her session. The moderator should start immediately e-mailing the presenters.
    • If the abstract is not clear enough to clarify the idea or the technique, then the moderator should e-mail the presenter asking for more details or for the presentation itself.
    • The presenter should understand that he/she has only 3 minutes to explain his idea and technique (no introduction, review of literature, etc.)
    • The moderator may ask the presenter to send him 2 – 3 questions that he would like to be asked to further clarify his work.
    • The moderator should plan for discussion and to underline the points of controversy and conflict between presenters on the same or similar topics. In this way he can stimulate and create dynamic discussion between the presenters and among the audience. He will send three weeks before the congress starts, to the congress director (ddd@club-internet.fr) the exact schedule of the session, minute per minute with the questions and answers so that the cameraman will know who should be filmed.
    • The moderator should review his e-mail daily to be continuously aware of remarks and comments from the presenters.

  3. At the meeting, the moderator is responsible for the respect of the timing. He will start to present the topic or the point of conflict/controversy between 2 or more of the presenters. Then each presenter will explain his/her point of view in 3 minutes.
    • The moderator will then start to ask questions and comments to further highlight and intensify the points of conflict. Each presenter should be given a chance to defend his/her point of view.
    • The moderator should encourage contributions from the audience.  (Questions & comments)
    • The moderator should put a time frame for each point of controversy. The presenters should understand that he/she would not be allowed to exceed the allocated time.
